Bob was the narrator and host of a recent overview video developed for the Men’s Rally in the Valley, a Promise Keepers-style event on Saturday, May 8.

The DVD was used to introduce churches and sponsors to the Men’s Rally.

While on Big 106.1, I got the chance to drop the puck at a Youngstown Steelhounds hockey game at the Chevrolet Center. I really didn’t slip and fall on the ice did I?

I have to wonder, because a few years earlier, I had the opportunity to throw out the first ball at a Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball game. It was a fast ball that I threw too hard and bounced five feet in front of the plate. How embarrassing!

My radio career has allowed me to meet some stars in baseball. For example, in 1999, I got the chance to interview Cleveland Indians All-Star catcher Sandy Alomar Jr.

When I was working the morning show on Oldies 93, one of our favorite guests was Bob “Gilligan” Denver who was in town for a promotion and stopped by the morning show.

He actually gave me the “Gilligan” cap that you see in the photo. I still remember Bob as Maynard G. Krebs on the 60s TV show, “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.”

I’ve also had the privilege of meeting some of the baseball stars of the broadcast booth. What a thrill it was to interview one of the best radio play-by-play broadcasters in the business, the voice of the Cleveland Indians, Tom Hamilton.

Becoming a radio personality and DJ was not actually why I chose broadcasting as a career.  I became interested in radio because of my love of sports and listening to Cleveland Indian baseball games on a transistor radio growing up.

At the beginning of each new season, I would write to my heroes of the diamond and ask for an autographed picture. Things were a lot different in the 60s and I received many pics personally sent by the players. No one could knock The Rock, Indian right fielder Rocky Colavito.
